About Torus
Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 540,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. Our mission is to build the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure — built to unite people and communities through resilient, secure, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.
At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports critical systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.
About the Role
As the Overwatch Energy System Onboarding Specialist, you are the technical bridge between Torus energy systems and our customers. You own the post-install onboarding experience by translating complex energy systems, including hardware, controls, communications, firmware, and software into clear, actionable understanding for both commercial and residential customers.
You are a systems thinker with strong technical curiosity who is comfortable working hands-on with real-world energy systems. You collaborate closely with Engineering, Commissioning, Product, and Support teams to ensure customers can confidently operate, understand, and optimize their systems.
Responsibilities
Energy System Onboarding & Enablement
- Lead post-install onboarding for commercial Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Flywheel Energy Storage Systems (FESS) and residential Torus systems.
- Explain system architecture, power flows, load control, automation behavior, and monitoring tools.
- Tailor onboarding based on customer goals, system complexity, and energy usage profiles.
Technical Ownership & Troubleshooting
- Serve as a technical subject matter expert across energy systems, including storage, power electronics, controls, communications, firmware, and cloud software.
- Diagnose and resolve system issues remotely and on-site, including configuration, connectivity, and performance.
- Review commissioning outputs and system data to validate behavior and identify optimization opportunities.
- Support customer communication and technical coordination as part of a 24/7 operations environment, including occasional after-hours or on-call support as needed.
Customer & Cross-Functional Ownership
- Act as the primary post-install technical point of contact for customers.
- Support commercial customers with more complex operational requirements while maintaining ownership of residential onboarding.
- Partner with Engineering, Commissioning, Product, and Customer Support teams to resolve issues and improve systems.
- Serve as the Voice of the Customer by providing structured, technical feedback from the field.
Required Experience
- 3–5+ years in a technical, customer-facing role supporting complex systems (e.g., energy systems, power, controls, IoT, networking, or integrated hardware/software products).
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex systems and clearly explain them to non-technical audiences.
- Hands-on experience working with real-world hardware and software systems.
- Comfort diagnosing issues using system behavior, data, logs, and monitoring tools.
- Strong systems-thinking mindset with the ability to manage multiple customers and priorities.
- Proven ability to operate effectively and improve processes in fast-moving or ambiguous environments.
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience in energy systems, controls, or industrial technology.
- Experience supporting commercial, industrial, or multi-site customers.
- Familiarity with electrical systems, controls, or networking concepts.
- Experience working in a startup or scaling organization.
Who you are
You’ll be a great fit if you’re customer-obsessed with a strong technical foundation and a genuine curiosity for how systems work and why they behave the way they do. You’re comfortable solving problems hands-on in the field, navigating ambiguity with confidence, and taking ownership without needing close direction. As a self-motivated, reliable, and proactive teammate, you bring both technical rigor and a customer-first mindset to every interaction.
